Ola Hawaii Materials Win a Gold Adrian Award

The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) recently awarded a coveted Gold Adrian Award to the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association's (NaHHA) Ola Hawai'i Manual.

HONOLULU, HI, February 24, 2010 /Public Relations PR News/ -- The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) recently awarded a coveted Gold Adrian Award to the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association's (NaHHA) Ola Hawai'i Manual. This year is the 53rd annual Adrian Awards Competition, the largest and most prestigious travel marketing competition globally.
More than 1,000 hospitality, travel and tourism-marketing executives attended the HSMAI Adrian Awards Gala on Feb. 1st in New York. This year's contest attracted nearly 1,100 entries from around the world, which were judged by top executives from all sectors of the industry.
"We are pleased that the Adrian Awards recognized the combined effort of NaHHA and this agency to represent the Ola Hawai'i program in materials that reflected Hawaiian culture. This complements the curriculum which teaches businesses the importance and value of grounding their activities in the host culture," said Dawn Webster, President and CEO of Loomis-ISC.
An integral part of the design for the Ola Hawai'i manual was the Iwa bird, symbolizing the goddess Kaiona. In ancient Hawaiian mythology, Kaiona would send an Iwa bird to guide her people to safety when they lost their way. The beautiful paintings that served as a focal point for the design of the covers and sectional title pages of the manual were the work of local artist, Mara Franzmeier.
"Using the Iwa bird for this manual symbolizes the Alaka'i guiding businesses in their return to a path of cultural awareness and preservation, as they center their hospitality activities in the host culture," said NaHHA Project Manager, Pamela Davis-Lee.
The Adrian Awards are presented by the HSMAI, an international organization of sales and marketing professionals representing all segments of the hospitality, travel, and tourism industry. HSMAI describes the Adrian Awards as a competition that, "honors creative brilliance and best practices in hospitality, travel and tourism marketing."
